As first time cat owners there are a few things that we need to know before we bring our new friend into our home.
Let's take a look at some of the supplies necessary for keeping a cat.
Food bowl & water dish Many cat owners like to "free feed" their cats this is a process where you keep food in a dish all the time.
This system works well providing your cat will not over feed itself.
You will want to keep water in a bowl for your cat all the time.
If you choose to give it a taste of milk you may want to use another bowl for that.
A kitty litter box This is so that your cat will have a place to go to the bath room other than your plants.
A local pet store will have a litter box and you can find the litter at any grocery store.
You will want to clean it a couple of times a week.
Food There are many different choices on cat food.
Your best bet for a healthy pet is to get a good quality cat food.
A scratching post A cat needs a place to use its claws.
If it doesn't have a scratching post it will scratch on your furniture.
You can find different kinds scratching posts at a local pet store.
Training This is all you really need as far as supplies go now let's talk about training your cat.
There are two areas you need to train your cat in.
o The kitty litter box o The scratching post Watch when your cat needs to go to the bathroom and put it in the box it is natural for them to use a sandy area so it will not take too long to teach it.
When you catch your cat scratching on the furniture put it by the post it should catch on pretty quick.
