How to Make a Pine Cone Bird Feeder With Sunflower Seeds
- 1). Measure and cut a piece of string about 1 foot in length using a ruler and scissors.
- 2). Tie one end of the string in a knot around a top branch of a pine tree.
- 3). Use a butter to smear peanut butter on each branch and nook of the pine cone. If you decide to make multiple bird feeders, 1 lb. of peanut butter will supply approximately 10 bird feeders.
- 4). Pour a cup of sunflower seeds, such as the black-oil variety, on a paper plate. The small-sized, black-oil sunflower seeds are high in fat and attract birds. Their thin shells makes them easier for small birds to crack open.
- 5). Roll the pine cone back and forth in the sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds will stick to the peanut butter. Shake of any access seeds after rolling it.
- 6). Tie the top of the string attached to the pine cone to a tree branch outside. Place the bird feeder near other trees and shrubs that you know birds visit.
