How to Make Miniature Tombstones
- 1). Prepare a flat work surface with a piece of scrap linoleum or an old carpet sample that can withstand cuts from a sharp blade. Your utility knife will cut through your foam and damage the surface beneath it.
- 2). Trace the outline of your tombstone onto the foam with a pencil. Keep the shape simple so it is easier to cut.
- 3). Grasp your board with one hand and cut along the outline with your utility knife. It may take a few strokes to cut through your foam. Always cut away from your hand and body to avoid injury.
- 4). Use sandpaper to round the top edges of your tombstone. Do not apply heavy pressure or the foam will break.
- 5). Apply the gray paint with the roller. Make certain the foam is completely covered with paint. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
- 6). Use a black marker to write an epitaph. Use simple block letters to make it easy to read. People especially enjoy humorous epitaphs.
- 7). Face the bottom edge of your tombstone towards you. Measure 1 inch from each edge of the foam and mark it with a pencil. Dip one end of a tomato stake into glue and insert it on one mark. Push it into the foam a couple of inches. Cut the exposed end of the stake with your utility knife to leave about 4 inches. Repeat the process with a second stake on the other mark. This allows you to anchor the tombstone into the ground.
