How to Resurface Wooden Floors

    • 1). Remove everything from the room to expose the entire floor and use the vacuum to remove any dirt or debris. If there are any staples protruding up from the floor, use pliers to remove them. If there are any nails that have been raised up, use a hammer to sink them back into the floor.

    • 2). Wear safety goggles and a dust mask for the sanding. Mount 60-grit sanding paper to a drum sander. Start the drum sander and walk it forward, sanding with the grain of the wood. Continue sanding until the entire floor surface has been covered. Wait at least 30 minutes for all the airborne dust particles to settle and vacuum the entire floor.

    • 3). Equip a 120-grit buffing screen to a floor buffer. Start the floor buffer in the center of the room and use a wide sweeping motion to buff the entire floor. Wait at least 30 minutes for all the airborne dust particles to settle and vacuum the entire floor.

    • 4). Use a bristle brush (or whatever type of applicator is specified on the can of stain) to apply the stain or floor sealer to the floor. Wait the appropriate amount of time to dry as specified.
