Are you planning to apply epoxy coating to your floor? Then bear in mind these three very important steps: planning and preparation, repairing, and applying the coating.
Planning is very important in fixing floors as this can save you time and money in going back to the store because you were not able to buy all the things that you needed.
Not enough planning can also cost delays to get things done.
Thus, before you start with your fixing plans, research on the things that you need first to do the job.
And you need good tools to the job.
Having good tools will allow you to work less than what you have to do.
Some tools that will help you apply epoxy coating are power scrubbers, walk behind vacuums, double bladed squeegees, and long handled scrapers.
These tools will help you reduce your work and increase your performance.
It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to buy these tools; you can just borrow them from a friend who has them or rent them.
Though you can still do the job even without these tools but these tools will allow you to finish your work earlier than you should.
Another important thing is that you remove all loose concrete.
Loose concrete can be very dusty because concrete is constantly deteriorating and breaking away.
When you are applying epoxy, your floor should be very clean so you need to do some aggressive scrubbing to remove loose concrete.
Thus, it is also essential that all types of dirt be removed.
However, these different types of dirt also require different cleaners.
Prepare your floors by determining all the types of cleaners that you need.
For example, dirt and contaminants like fats and oils can be removed with alkaline type cleaners.
But minerals, rust and concrete, can only be removed with acidic type cleaners.
And when you finish one type of cleaner, make sure that you give your floor a good scrub before using another.
This is because when alkaline and acidic containers mixed, they can cancel out each other and becomes neutral.
Giving your floor a good scrub will stop this chemical reaction.
Or you can also shock the floor by bringing the pH up to 12 as a way to help free dirt and contaminants.
You can hit your floor with acidic cleaner to drop the pH to 5.
5 or so.
This can remove concrete particles effectively.
Lastly make sure that you remove gum, adhesive, asphalt, some paints, concrete splatters, and silicone sprays.
Gum can be removed through scraping or with a 190-degree hot water jet.
These are important preparation steps you have to do when applying epoxy coating.
