Evil Begets Evil
When someone behaves with an attitude of wickedness, with a desire to hurt others, they will move more and more into a dark place.
Why does this happen? I have read in Hindu spiritual teachings that when someone does an evil, wicked act, they create within themselves a tendency to do another such act.
It will be easier in the future for them to act in this manner again.
They will want to hurt others even more.
So evil begets evil.
The opposite is also true.
When someone chooses to do an act of kindness for someone else, they create within themselves a tendency to do acts of loving-kindness for others.
This is a beautiful direction to be moving.
But it appears that we have to make a definite decision to act kindly, because the meanness may already have become a habit and habits are sometimes hard to break.
But we can do this.
We get to choose.
This is the narrow road Jesus talked about.
He told us that many will want to follow the wide, well-traveled road where evil begets evil.
He told us that wide is the way that many will travel that leads to perdition, and narrow is the road that leads to heaven, but few will find it.
This is because few will be willing to give unconditional love to others.
And one prerequisite for learning to love others, ourselves, and God unconditionally is a willingness to forgive.
May our choices lead us into the warm, loving arms of our heavenly Father.
