How to Donate a Car in Athens, Georgia
- 1). Donate your car to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, located in Athens, Georgia. Donations for the food bank are accepted through Cars 4 Charities by calling 866-448-3487, or by filling out their online donation form (see Resources). All proceeds from the sale of your car are given to the charity. A representative will connect you with an Athens towing company. Make sure to give the towing company your car's title and car keys. A tax-deductible car donation receipt in the amount of $500 is mailed to you once the car sells. If your car sells for more than $500, a receipt is issued for the selling price.
- 2). Click on the charity you wish to support from Donation Wizard's website (see Resources). You may select one of 16 charities, including Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes and Feed the Children. Click "Go" to be taken directly to the charity's online donation form. Fill out the form. Donation Wizard arranges to have a towing company in Athens contact you to schedule a pickup date. You must have your car title, but keys and registration papers are optional. A tax-deductible car donation receipt is mailed after the vehicle is sold.
- 3). Call 888-990-4PET if you'd like the proceeds from your car donation to go toward helping animals in need. Cars Helping Pets also has an online donation page (see Resources) where you can input your car's basic information and any known mechanical problems. Cars Helping Pets tows unwanted cars from all major cities in Georgia, including Athens. In addition to your title, Cars Helping Pets requires a lien release, if applicable. A tax-deductible car donation receipt is issued once the car sells.
