Gap Between Rich and Poor - How Do We Modify Society and Close that Gap?
We seem to have an on-going debate in this nation about the gap between the rich and poor.
Unfortunately, it has been used by politicians to create a class warfare situation in order to get more votes and political capital.
In reviewing this situation over the years, it's gotten worse.
Perhaps, no politician had been able to throw a wedge between classes in the US for political gain as Barack Obama.
Not long ago, I was discussing the challenges we have here with the gap between lower, middle, and upper classes with someone from India.
Turns out with the US robust middle class, it's kind of silly to complain about it, that is compared to India's population.
My acquaintance noted that in countries like his; "there is a wider gap which is being created between the rich and poor.
" But, I ask is this really anything new? Consider if you will that in India previously nearly everyone was poor, except a few, now more folks are wealthy, and a more and more in the middle.
So, actually things have over-all gotten better, still many hard-working or entrepreneurial savvy folks with connections have gone from rags to riches.
Now they are way above the average citizen.
My acquaintance asks; "How do we overcome such a gap?" First, I ask why use the term "WE" - as it's up to the individual to bring themselves up, not the whole to bring up those who will not perform, work hard, or merely want a hand out so they can be wealthy like the others they seem to be jealous of.
My acquaintance mentions the problem with corruption and "black money" which is stolen and moved out of the country into Swiss Bank Accounts, and suggests the number to be in the neighborhood of $1.
5 Trillion.
My acquaintance also suggests that rich industrialists need workers, and politicians need voters, and they are abusing the system, and he indicates that there is a problem with capitalism, so thus, money needs to be given back to the people.
Okay so, is this really a problem with capitalism? Now, I'd suggest to you that one of the aims of Free-Market Capitalism is to put everyone on a level playing field.
And, I'd say that what he is describing is Crony Capitalism, which should not be honored, as that's just a whole bunch of thugs in gangs running around cheating.
Still, crony capitalism happens everywhere when the incestuous relationship between government and industrialist get together to run their own agendas at the expense of the people.
Crony Capitalism is Bad, Free-Market Capitalism is good, and there is a big difference.
So, how do we close the gap? We keep capitalism and reject crony capitalism, that's how.
Please consider all this.
