    • 1). Create a color scheme or theme for the party to keep everything related. Having a particular color scheme or theme, along with the style of the party, will help you narrow down the types of decorations to use.

    • 2). Hang a banner in a prominent place in the party space, such as behind the cake table or DJ booth. The banner should say "Happy Sweet 16 Julia" or something similar. Another option is to hang the banner somewhere accessible so guests can sign the banner and leave birthday wishes.

    • 3). Decorate the walls and ceiling with streamers and balloons in the colors of the birthday party. Use tulle twisted with twinkling lights for a formal sweet 16 party. Include Mylar balloons in the shape of "16" or that say "Sweet 16." Common color schemes include pink or purple mixed with black, white or silver. Wrap strings of lights around pillars, house trees or other items around the party room to add to the ambiance.

    • 4). Cover the tables with linen tablecloths for a formal Sweet 16, or colorful plastic tablecloths for a casual party. Chair covers, plates, linen napkins and centerpieces should also complement the color scheme, theme and style of the party. For example, light pink tablecloths, white chair covers with light pink tulle bows, white napkins with pink embroidered "Sweet 16," white vases and pink ostrich feathers would work for a formal pink and white Sweet 16 party. Sprinkle silver confetti around the tables in the number 16 for added sparkle.
