How to Clean Moldy Cane
- 1). Clean the cane furniture with a mixture of wood soap or other mild detergent with warm water; mix well until the soap forms suds. If you use a professional wood soap, follow all product instructions regarding how much soap to use.
- 2). Scrub the furniture with a soft-bristle brush soaked in the soap-and-water solution. Remove as much surface dirt, grime and mold as you can. Rinse the furniture with clean warm water to remove residual suds, and dry with a towel.
- 3). Mix 1½ cups bleach per 1 gallon water to form a mold-killing solution. Apply this solution to the moldy furniture with the soft-bristle brush; use a soft rag or sponge if the moldy area is small. Use bleach only on the moldy areas; wipe the solution away from all other surfaces immediately to avoid staining.
- 4). Rinse the furniture with clean, warm water to remove residual bleach. Leave the furniture outside in direct sunlight and in an area where the wind blows to dry it thoroughly. Allow it to dry for 48 hours, then inspect it; repeat the bleach application if necessary.
