How do I Install an Internal Ethernet PCI Card Into a Dell PC?
- 1). Turn off your Dell and unplug all cables from the PC. Grab the left side panel, and slide it out from the computer. There is a latch on the rear edge of the panel you must press down to release it. You should now see the computer's interior. Static charge can easily damage sensitive electronic components, so be sure to wear an anti-static wristband before proceeding.
- 2). Remove the metal bracket adjacent to an empty PCI slot. Look for these white slots in the bottom left portion of the motherboard. Pick any empty slot, and unscrew the metal bracket to the left of it with a Phillips screwdriver. This opens up the slot so you can install an expansion card.
- 3). Grab the edges of the PCI Ethernet card and insert it into the PCI slot. Align the copper contacts on the bottom of the card, and push down until you can barely see the copper connectors. Screw the metal bracket on the left side of the card down using the same Phillips screwdriver and screw from earlier.
- 4). Replace the left side panel, and plug all cables back into the system. The card should work in Windows automatically. Install the device drivers from the CD-ROM that came with the Ethernet card, if this is not the case.
