How to Get Rid of Mocking Birds
- 1). Place decoy owls in diverse places around your yard, especially in trees and around your bird feeder, to scare the mockingbirds. Move the decoy owls often to prevent the mockingbirds from becoming unaffected by their presence. You can purchase decoy owls at gardening stores.
- 2). Hang pie tins in areas where you've seen or heard the mockingbirds. Audubon California recommends hanging pie tins in the trees, where mockingbirds regularly perch to rest and sing, to frighten the birds away from your property.
- 3). Fill the water gun with water and spray it at any remaining mockingbirds. According to Vern Grubinger of the University of Vermont Extension, birds usually feed early in the morning around sunrise and late in the afternoon around sunset, so look for and spray the mockingbirds during those times. Repeat until you've successfully scared or frightened the mockingbird away from your property.
