How to Troubleshoot a USB Sound Card
- 1). Push the USB sound card completely into the connection port. If the hardware is not completely inserted into the USB port, the computer is unable to read the equipment.
- 2). Disconnect the USB sound card, then plug it into a different USB port on the computer. Some USB ports don't function with all hardware, or can become inoperable, preventing the card from being read by the computer.
- 3). Install the provided drivers. This comes on a driver installation CD supplied with the sound card. Without the drivers, the computer is unable to understand how to use the sound card.
- 4). Double-click the sound icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. Unmute any option in the options window that appears on the screen. If such an option is muted, the audio connections on the sound card will not function on the computer system.
- 5). Click the "Start" button, followed by "Settings," "Control Panel" and then choose "Sound." Click the "Audio" tab and select the USB sound card device from the pull-down menu. This activates the card and sets it as the default equipment used to control the audio on the computer.
