How to Make a Nintendo Game Pouch
- 1). Choose a fabric that you like that will also be durable enough to protect your Nintendo game. Fabrics such as denim, polar fleece, felt and vinyl will be very durable but difficult to sew through. Lighter fabrics will be easier to work with but may not provide as much protection.
- 2). Lay your fabric down two pieces thick on a flat surface and then place your game on top of it. Mark with a piece of chalk and a ruler about one inch larger than the game system all the way around. Make one piece twice as large and you can sew it into a protective flap for the game.
- 3). Cut your fabric according to your chalk measurements. One piece, the back, will be twice as long as the front piece.
- 4). Place the larger, back piece down on your table with the wrong side facing you. Place the smaller front piece down on top of the back piece, right-side up, carefully positioned at the bottom so that all sides (except the flap) match.
- 5). Pin the two pieces together on three sides. The top section of the small piece that borders the flap should not be sewn as this is where your game goes. At least three pins per side evenly spaced on three sides should hold it in place. Make sure to pin each connecting corner.
- 6). Sew with either a sewing machine or by hand the two pieces together on the three pinned sides; remember to leave the top of the small piece that borders the flap open.
- 7). Trim the edges with a pinking shears or scissors. Because of the flap, you can't hem the edges. Pinking shears will keep the edges from unravelling.
- 8). Hand sew a piece of ribbon longer than the pouch to the middle of the back of the pouch. You need to sew only about two inches in length of the ribbon. When laid out, the ribbon will wrap around the pouch and tie the flap securely in front. Alternatively, you could hand-sew a piece of velcro to the inside of the flap and the corresponding piece onto the pouch and make a velcro closure instead of a tie.
- 9). Sew a small loop of fabric or string to the corner of your pouch to attach a carabiner or key ring to it, allowing you to attach the case to your backpack, jacket or pants. Alternatively, you could sew on a shoulder strap made of a long piece of ribbon.
