    Fresh Oil Stains

    • 1). Pour an oil-absorbing compound onto the oil spill to absorb excess fluid. Most auto-part stores sell products that are designed to absorb oil and other car fluids, or you can use fresh kitty litter and still get the same results.

    • 2). Allow the absorbing compound to sit for 15 to 20 minutes to soak up as much of the oil as possible.

    • 3). Sweep up the oil-absorbing compound and discard properly. It is important to remember that car motor oil is toxic to the environment, so it will need to be disposed of properly.

    • 4). Spray the remaining oil with engine or oven degreaser. Degreaser cleaning products contain chemicals that attach themselves to the oil molecules, which makes cleaning easier. Allow the degreaser to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 5). Scrub the engine oil spill with a wire brush. Concrete is a porous material, so using a wire brush to scrub at the spill will help work the degreaser into the concretes pores.

    • 6). Spray the engine oil spill with a hose or pressure washer to rinse away the degreaser and oil stain.

    • 7). Repeat the process while the oil spill is still damp if the first treatment does not completely remove the oil from your concrete driveway.

    Old Oil Stains

    • 1). Spray the stain with engine or oven degreaser. Allow the degreaser to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 2). Scrub the degreaser into the stain with a stiff wire brush to work the degreaser deep down into the concrete.

    • 3). Apply an additional coating of degreaser to the stain. Allow to sit for 10 to 15 more minutes. Scrub the oil stain again with the wire brush.

    • 4). Rinse the stain with a pressure washer or garden hose to remove the degreaser.

    • 5). Repeat the cleaning process until the stain is removed.
