    • 1). Get plenty of sleep the night before the test. Eat a good breakfast, and show up early to the test to avoid a hurried entrance and missing important test instructions.

    • 2). Listen to the instructions for the exam carefully. One part of the test may be weighted more than another. You may also work through practice questions that can help you get a feel for how the questions are worded and structured. The instructions will tell you how long you have to take the exam, which will enable you to plan how much time to spend on questions in each section.

    • 3). Answer all of the questions if you are not marked for wrong answers. Again, listening to the instructions is important as the point system will likely be covered at this time. When in doubt, and negative points do not strike against you, give your best guess to at least get some points; however, do not guess on answers that are completely unfamiliar to you. You may not be expected to finish the test during the time allotted. In this case, it is better to take your time and have correct answers than not to have finished and rushed through only to get several wrong.

    • 4). Mark questions that you want to return to when you have finished the rest of the exam. If you have time, you can work through the questions on which you had to guess.

    • 5). The questions may get harder as you go along, so add a few seconds to how long it took you to answer the first questions as you go through the exam. Judge the difficulty level and work through the exam with a pace that will allow you time to answer correctly.

    • 6). Practice with some online aptitude tests before you take your exam. These practice tests can prepare you for the types of questions you will see and the expected answers for them; the University of Kent offers some free aptitude practice tests on its website. Others free tests are available from various companies for a fee.

    • 7). Bring your own calculator if they are allowed and the company does not provide calculators for you. Being familiar with the testing layout will help you work more quickly.
