    • The word "contiguous" is defined as two things that are in physical contact with one another. These objects touch each other directly, without anything between them.

    Use of the Word in Shipbuilding

    • Objects on a ship that are close enough to be touching can be described as contiguous. Fr example, steel plates located next to each other on a ship under construction, or the teeth of a wheel, are described as contiguous.

    Shipyards

    • The land used for shipbuilding may be one large parcel or divided into several parcels that are not connected. These pieces of land can be described as not contiguous, yet they are spoken of as a single shipyard.
