Black Cats Picture Gallery: Gypsy

Gypsy adopted me. I was convinced I was never going to be a cat person, but while visiting a friend (a three hour plane ride from home) this tiny little black kitten waltzed into her lounge, planted herself on my tummy, and basically refused to leave. I had two days before I was due to fly home, so we frantically asked around the area to find her Humans, hoping that someone would be missing this gorgeous black imp - to no avail.

The only person to recognize her was a neighbour two streets down, who was convinced this was her next door neighbour's kitten - bought on a whim for the kids and left behind while they went away for a three week Easter break.
Did I mention this was over Easter? And did I mention I was miles from home - suffice to say, Easter Sunday was spent trying to find ANY place that would sell a cat carrier, the airline was contacted, transport organized, and on Easter Monday we were on our way - my friend and I both fretting about this teensy weensy kitten having to travel on a giant plane...until we spotted every single luggage handler at the airport crouched around her crate giving her scritches and kitten love.

That was Gypsy, in a nut shell. She loved everyone, and everyone in turn loved her. We had a hectic life together, we moved around a lot, but I could open her carrier in a new home, and as long as my bed was set up for the night for her to curl up with me for a good night's purring she was happy wherever I dragged her.

She even suffered the indignity of sharing her Human with another Human and a DAWG when I met my partner - whatever life threw at her, Gypsy took in her stride. Until FIP found her - it was the one thing she could not charm her way out of, and with a heavy heart we said goodbye to our little black smoke Munchkin.

But even her passing was to leave a lasting legacy - when she left us we thought we should take it as a sign that there is another kitten somewhere that needs our love - and obviously we missed the bit where we should have stopped, because we now share our bed with seven little monsters, and none of them are black :).
