How to Paint Bedroom Furniture With Melamine
- 1). Remove any fiddly bits from the furniture: knobs, bars, mattresses, bits of cloth, what have you. These will impede the painting process. If necessary or desired, you can paint these individually.
- 2). Move the furniture outside to a well-ventilated area. Never attempt to paint anything in melamine unless the area is well-ventilated, as the fumes can be hazardous to your health.
- 3). Clean the furniture thoroughly with cleaning solvent and your sponge or rag, then allow it to dry completely.
- 4). Lightly sand every surface you wish to paint. This will help the paint and primer bond better with the material.
- 5). Apply a single coat of Melamine primer to your piece of furniture and allow it to dry.
- 6). Stir the paint as directed on the paint can, then apply a single coat of paint to the primed areas. Use smooth, even strokes to ensure the most attractive end result.
- 7). Wait for the paint to dry, then apply two more thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next.
- 8). Sand, apply primer and paint any of the bits you removed in Step 1 in the same manner as you did the furniture.
- 9). Wait for everything to dry, then reassemble your furniture and move it back into your bedroom.
