How to Keep Aluminum Foil From Wrinkling in an Art Project
- 1). Handle the foil very carefully. Kitchen aluminum foil is primarily made to wrap items, such as food for storage. Because of that main purpose, it is quite easy to fold, bend and crumple the substance. Handle it carefully during your art project. Think about each move you make manipulating the foil before you actually move it to ensure you really do need to handle the material. The less you handle the material, the lower the risk of it wrinkling.
- 2). Move the art project only when necessary. Once the art project is complete, take great care when you move it to a new location. Environmental factors such as wind, rain and snow that come in contact with the aluminum will cause it to wrinkle further. Even moving the project across the room may cause it wrinkle if it's done too quickly.
- 3). Secure pieces of cardboard on each side of the project. If the art project is flat, such as a painting or sketch on foil, place at least 1/4-inch-thick cardboard on each side. Secure the cardboard together with masking tape. This keeps the project both flat and protected from wrinkling.
- 4). Place protective barriers around the art project. Seal the aluminum foil art project in a plastic bag. If the project is too large, drape a lightweight sheet over the project. Next, place the item in a hard plastic or rubber container that fully envelops the art project. This protects it from coming in contact with outside elements as well as insulating it from a fall. Finally, use foam or lightweight clothing and stuff it gently around the project to fill up the rest of the space in the hard container. Think of this process in the same manner as you do when packing fragile glasses or dishes when moving.
