How to Quilt Eyes on Teddy Bear

    • 1). Thread your embroidery floss or yarn for your eyes through a short needle with an eye large enough to hold the yarn or thread.

    • 2). Knot the end of the thread so that it doesn't pull all of the way through the fabric.

    • 3). Mark where the eyes will be with chalk on the face of the bear.

    • 4). Insert the threaded needle into place where you want the top of the eye and push it through behind the fabric, poking it back out at the base of the eye.

    • 5). Pull the thread all the way through until the knot catches in a gentle but firm motion.

    • 6). Insert the needle directly above the spot where you pulled the needle out at the top of the eye, creating what is known as a whipstitch. The whipstitch is usually used for seaming fabrics together but is an effective simple stitch for making eyes or other decorative features.

    • 7). Continue stitching the whipstitch in this fashion, making the stitch shorter as you go out to the edges of the eye to create a circular, eye shape.

    • 8). Tuck the needle under one of the stitches and make a small, inconspicuous knot to secure the thread when the eye is complete.

    • 9). Snip the tails off both ends of the thread very close to their knots to complete the eye.
