How to Print From Microfiche
- 1). Pull out the microfiche insert-handle on the microfiche reader. The handle is generally available on the front panel and is made of plastic. In most cases it looks like a typical drawer handle. A glass plate will pop out as you pull this handle out.
- 2). Place the microfiche face down under the glass plate and push in the insert-handle until the glass plate is fully inserted into the reader and the image is displayed on the screen.
- 3). Turn the zoom knob on the reader to zoom in on or zoom out on the image so that the areas you want to print are inside the rectangular box on the screen. You can also use the insert-handle to move the microficche around to adjust the position of the image inside the printable area. Note that some readers show only cross-hairs on four corners instead of a rectangular box. Your printing area should be within these cross-hairs.
- 4). Scan the document. To do this, first go to the scanning/printing program running on the computer connected to the microfiche reader and click on File->Scan to Page. The microfiche page will be scanned to a page on the computer. Carefully review the page to see if further placement or zooming adjustments are needed to fit the image on the page properly. If adjustments are needed, go back to the reader and use the insert-handle and zoom knob to adjust the image and click File->Scan to Page to view the modified document. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the scanned image. Note that some microfiche machines are directly connected to printers. On such a machine, simply press a "Print" button that is generally available on its front or side panel.
- 5). Click on File->Scan to Print to print the image on the printer connected to the computer.
