How Do I Boot to the CD-ROM With My Recovery Disk?
- 1). Turn on your computer.
- 2). Watch closely for any onscreen display instructing you to press a key to boot from a CD or DVD. If you see a prompt, press a key.
- 3). If you see no prompt, you will need to change your BIOS setting.
- 1). Turn on the computer. Watch carefully in the first few seconds of boot up to determine which key you need to press to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. You may be able to access the BIOS setup through "Press [key] for setup," or "Enter setup by pressing [key]." You may need to reboot your computer if you miss pressing the key the first time.
- 2). After you have entered the BIOS Setup Utility, look around for a tab or option named "Boot." The boot order list will be displayed. Again, computers vary in how they display the utility; however, most BIOS utilities are uncomplicated and easy to navigate.
- 3). Follow the directions in your BIOS utility for making your choices; usually, you use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate. Look for "CD-ROM Drive," "CD-DVD Drive," or "Optical Drive" in the boot order list. Move the keys to select the drive. According to your BIOS instructions, press either the "plus" sign (+) or the "Enter" key. The drive will move to the top of the list.
- 4). Press "F10" to save your changes and exit the BIOS utility, or follow the instructions for saving and exiting. The computer will restart.
- 5). You may now insert your recovery disk and restart your computer. The computer will detect the disk in the drive and boot from it.
