How to Wire a Hesco Alternator
- 1). Put on the protective gloves and goggles before wiring your alternator purchased from Hesco. Open and secure your vehicle's hood.
- 2). Disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal. Use a wrench to undo the bolt on the cable clamp and then pull the cable upward to remove it from the terminal. This isolates the electrical power. Repeat the process for the positive battery cable that's attached to the positive battery terminal. Move the cables away from the battery.
- 3). Locate your alternator and find the alternator terminals. There are usually three terminals: positive, negative and an alternator warning terminal. Locate the nearby cables that connect to the alternator: The positive cable feeds to your battery, the negative cable contacts to a metal part of the vehicle and the third is much thinner and protrudes from a wire harness.
- 4). Loosen the alternator terminals using a screwdriver or wrench. Don't remove them unless the cables have eyelets on the ends. Connect the negative cable to the negative terminal and tighten the connector. Repeat for the positive cable, then the third wire. Check that the cables are securely fitted.
- 5). Reconnect the positive battery cable to the positive battery terminal, then reconnect the negative battery cable to the corresponding battery terminal. Close your vehicle's hood.
