Many interior designers prefer wall sconces for the illumination of dwellings.
These nifty home accessories can give any home elegant indirect illumination, a more quieter and gentle approach to illumination compared to the floor lamp counterparts, which can sometimes take up a lot of space and give off too much light.
Wall sconce lighting is versatile, accommodating all kinds of light sources, whether it be from candle light, electricity, solar, and even battery operated.
If you are wanting to give sconces a whirl, consider these design tips.
Always try to place your sconce light at head level, or slightly higher.
For instance, if you are designing something like a vanity set, you will want to place sconce lighting where the head level should be when you sit.
This also applies to places such as your family room and your study.
For places such as doors, arches, and hallways, you should place sconces higher up.
Sconces work great together with mirrors.
Elongated mirrors look nice when you place wall sconces vertically along the sides.
Small and square mirrors look great when you place a wall sconce near each of the upper or lower corners.
Alternatively, you can place one sconce halfway up on the left and right.
You could also place wall sconces laterally on either the lower or upper pane.
I personally like the lower pane.
Usually, geometric shapes work well with any space.
Squares, cylinders, circles, and rectangles are good shapes to start with.
But you also want to work with the overall shapes of the particular room that you are designing.
For example, the furniture in my family room is mostly circular.
Consequently, I would be placing sphere, circle, and maybe oval shaped sconces.
