Check your gauge with the selected crochet hook and Lion Brand yarn. Crochet 8 chain stitches in a loop. Place your stitch marker on the first stitch. Crochet 8 rounds of single crochet. Remember to move the stitch marker up each time you begin a new round. After you crochet 8 rounds cast the stitches off and cut of the end of the yarn. By Row 9, you should have single crocheted in the first 7, and a then have done one single crochet in the next stitch. Remember to move up the stitch marker with each round.

Make a cord for the backpack. Begin by making 2 chain stitches and joining them together to form a loop. Work a single crochet in each stitch, moving in a continuous spiral. Continue this process until the cord measures 60 inches long. To finish the backpack, fasten off the stitches and cut any extra yarn.

Weave the cord in and out of the eyelets made in Step 9. When you have woven through all of the openings, tie the two ends of the cord together inside the backpack. Pull two large loops of the cord through two back loops of the backpack. These are the straps for the backpack.
