Half an hour from London, at the foot of Richmond Hill, you can find the Petersham Nurseries Cafe. In an idyllic atmosphere, surrounded by exuberant nature, the visitor that arrives to Petersam Nurseries gets in a few seconds captivated by the beauty of the scenery and its delicious plantations, which products that -if the reserve has been made on time, at least one month before- will have the pleasure to taste.
In the middle of this bucolic spot, stands up the Petersham Nurseries Cafe, a cute cafe-restaurant located in an old greenhouse that´s managed by Skye Gyngell, a vivacious blonde australian that has converted this place into a bestseller of english gastronomical agenda. Many awards guarantee that reputée and even the Hedonist
Guide to EAT IN LONDON (2008-2009) includes it between its unavoidables. Last year the cafe was awarded a star by theMichelin Guide. There, lunch is eaten amongst flowers and plants, at antique tables dotted around the main greenhouse and outside under fragrant Indian tatti shades, around a reclaimed stone fountain.
Great cuisine
Grilled leeks with romesco; crab and spinach cakes, fennel, radish and ali oli are some of the tasty delicatessen, made with local products of first quality, included in the menu. An array of delicious desserts (frozen apricots, raspberries and queen Claudia plums or the chocolate with double cream and caramel roll) are the perfect end for this incredible symphony of flavors. A menu that is regularly renewed to introduce the most fresh and in season products, one of the keys of the succes of th Gyngell´s cuisine, besides her clever mixtures of flavors.
A place loved by celebrities
If you have the chance to make the reservation on time, it´s possible you will find there some of the numerouscelebrities that come regularly (Paul Smith or Jerry Hall). Some of them met Skye Gyngell long ago, when she began to excel in society soirées. Mario Testino, Maddona and Anna Wintour were amongst the lucky people attending these gastronomical evenings, but the list was long.
Now you can taste her menus or go for a tea (there is one special proposal each month) during the evening. Don´t miss the natural fruit juice, the fair commerce coffees or the homemade cakes, a real pleasure for the senses in a rustic atmosphere but very chic.
Don´t forget to visit the greenhouse (with a selection of wonderful plants, flowers and seeds, that you can take home to recreate the unique atmosphere of this place) and the shop, in which you will find the Tade Pays Levant ecological products, the MAD and LEN fragrant bath salts, organic incense, Claus Porto and Marius Fabre soaps, etc. You can no forget their gastronomical products with delicacies as rose syrup, Le Camericimustard and marmalade; My Moune strawberries and mulberries marmalade and wine vinegar, ecological honey…). An incredible collection of Murano crystal pieces, antiquities, home and garden objets, furniture and garden tools they offer.

This December will see Petersham Nurseries bustling with activity. Make a step in their shop to buy beautiful yak hair throws, sumptuous Angora goat socks, woollen fingerless gloves or hand-blown glass baubles from India. You will also be tempted by stunning Murano glass, delicately handcrafted Astier de Villatte crockery and festive red and green Venetian striped glasses made by Countess Marie Brandolini. Their head chef Skye Gyngell has prepared ahamper of delicious goodies; we recomend a pampering hamper filled with handmade soaps from Tuscany and organic rose beauty products from the Welsh hills. You can also enjoy the new Petersham Nurseries Christmas Crackers handmade exclusively for Petersham and filled with gifts inspired by the Restaurant, Shop, Teahouse and Nursery. This year, Petersham Nurseries will surprise visitors with the Christmas Tent, that will be fully stocked with everything you need for a natural, woodland Christmas. Scented, sustainably sourced Christmas trees, holly branches, festive mistletoe and handmade wreaths created by Ronny de Koning, Petersham Nurseries' resident florist.

The Restaurant is open from Tuesday – Sunday from 12pm to 3 pm. Reservations are essential. Tel: 020 8605 3627. The Teahouse is open Tuesday – Saturday (9am – 5pm) & Sunday (11am – 5pm). Breakfast is served daily until 11am. A weekly changing lunch menu is served from 12noon (Please see website for details). Homemade cakes, tea and coffee are served all day.
