    Clean the Closet

    • 1). Mix 2 cups white vinegar and 2 cups hot water in a bucket for a cleaning solution. Wash uncarpeted floors, baseboards and walls with the solution and a cleaning cloth to remove dirt or mildew. Use a clean cloth to dry.

    • 2). Sprinkle baking soda into carpet and rub it in using your hands. Allow to sit on the carpet for several hours to a day, then vacuum the carpet.

    • 3). Wash shelves with the vinegar solution and a cleaning cloth. Pay special attention to corners that could have an accumulation of dirt. Use a clean cloth to dry.

    Fresh Scents and Deodorizers

    • 1). Add charcoal briquettes to a quart-size mesh bag. Tie the neck of the bag with sturdy string and attach to the closet rod. Keep the bag away from clothing because it will transfer dust if allowed to touch clothing. Leave for 48 hours, then remove.

    • 2). Hang cedar blocks from the closet rod or attach to hangers. Closet cedar blocks are available at home-improvement centers. Cedar also helps to repel insects.

    • 3). Place a container on the floor with 1 cup white vinegar. Leave for 24 hours. For a more pleasant aroma, dip cotton balls into citrus oil and place inside the container instead of the vinegar.
