How to Paint a Black Pool
- 1). Protect your body with goggles and rubber gloves, as the chemicals used in pool cleaning and painting are potentially dangerous. Apply a thin layer of tri-sodium phosphate to the swimming pool walls. Rub the solution with a scrub brush.
- 2). Open the swimming pool drain, if it's currently closed. Direct the garden hose at the swimming pool walls, rinsing the pool free of the tri-sodium phosphate. Coat the walls with muriatic acid, mixing it with water according to the guidelines of the manufacturer. Let it sit as long as the manufacturer recommends.
- 3). Rinse the swimming pool completely with fresh water from the garden hose. Make sure that the water reaches all areas of the pool. Pump the water from the pool with a water pump. Wait at least 24 hours for any remaining water or puddles to dissipate and dry.
- 4). Apply a coat of primer to the walls and bottom of the swimming pool. Work in large areas, making sure you provide a smooth and even coat of the primer. Roll the primer onto the swimming pool with a paint roller and let dry completely.
- 5). Paint the swimming pool with a black epoxy paint. Use the paint roller on all areas of the swimming pool. Check the pool carefully and go back over it with a paintbrush, painting along the corners and any hard to reach areas. Let the paint dry completely before adding water back to the pool.
