How to Get Rid of Metallic Taste From Stainless Steel Pans

    • 1). Clean the stainless steel pans thoroughly after you purchase them. Many steel pans come "shined up" so that they look good when you open the package. Make up a batch of dishwater with plenty of oil-fighting dish soap and wash the pans inside and out before use.

    • 2). Dry stainless steel pans immediately after washing. If left to air-dry, the pans may develop water spots, so you may be tasting the minerals from the water and not from the pans.

    • 3). Use only a dish cloth and soft towel to clean stainless steel pans if possible. Allow pans to soak for a few minutes before washing to remove caked-on foods, instead of using a scrubber, which can create scratches, which in turn may create a metallic taste in the pans as they age.

    • 4). Store stainless steel plans so they do not rub against each other. Some stainless steel pans come with storage bags that should be used whenever the pans are put away. If pans don't come with storage bags, hang them rather than nesting them inside each other.

    • 5). Remove cooked food from a stainless steel pan as soon as the food has finished cooking. The longer you leave the food sitting in the steel pan, the more of the pan's properties the food absorbs.
