How to Build a Wall With Paver Blocks
- 1). Hammer stakes into the ground at the four corners of the area where the wall will be constructed and run string around the stakes. Use a line level to level the string to where the tops of the blocks will set.
- 2). Dig a trench inside the strung off-area 4 to 6 inches deep by 2 feet wide for the length of the wall. Spread a layer of compactable gravel in the trench.
- 3). Set the first row of paver blocks backward and upside down, making sure the edges touch. Lay them so that they are level with the string. If they are uneven, tap the top of each paver block with a rubber mallet until they all line up.
- 4). Spread construction-grade adhesive or mortar on the tops of the first row of blocks. Set the second row of blocks right side up and forward on top of the first row and securely into the adhesive. Repeat this step until you get the wall height you want. Spread mortar instead of construction-grade adhesive on walls that will be taller than 4 feet.
- 5). Lay capstones, if desired, on top of the last layer of paver blocks to give your wall a finished look. Spread construction-grade adhesive or mortar on the last row of paver blocks and set capstones on top of the row, setting them securely into the adhesive.
