LED Bulbs Are Changing

Not so long ago LED bulbs looked odd, didn't fit in regular fixtures and were difficult to use at home.
Things are in the process of changing.
It is now possible to get LED bulbs for both traditional fixtures and candelabra style chandeliers.
Not only do these new bulbs fit in your normal lamp, but they also look very much like incandescent bulbs, providing some comfort for those to whom looks are important.
Quality of Light One of the more common complaints about LED lighting is that they produce a very harsh, very white light, which is too direct.
A new bulb has addressed that problem by providing a warmer, more diffuse profile.
This bulb will be most suitable for accent lighting or in an application where several bulbs are used simultaneously.
Lumens - A New Standard When you look at LED lights and bulbs you will note that they are measured in lumens rather than watts, the standard used by incandescent bulbs.
This is to allow consumers a better method of comparing bulbs accurately.
The higher the lumen rating, the more light a bulb will provide - so, for example, a 20 watt incandescent bulb that would be found in a candelabra would produce about 120 lumens of light, and a 60 watt bulb is the equivalent of about 320 lumens.
Lifetime Savings Exactly how much you will save over the lifetime of a bulb will depend heavily upon the purchase price.
LED bulbs cost considerably more than the rapidly disappearing incandescent bulbs, but they are only about 2-3 times more than the very dangerous CFL bulbs.
The savings are found in two places; first, they last for 50-100,000 hours each, and second, they use about 10% of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs.
Making the Switch When you decide to switch over to LED lighting it is best to do so slowly, one bulb at a time.
Start with those light bulbs that are most difficult to switch or require constant replacement.
Don't limit your shopping to your local home supply store; check online for both reviews and prices.
