Vital measures of the health of mother across a population involve not merely the birth rates and obvious mortality rates but also some finer measures, including reproductive mortality rate and fertility rate. If applied in a standardized way, this information promotes comparison between two groups considering the most important function of any population – reproducing itself. Application of these steps also allows intended interventions to improve results in a way that might be avoided carelessly if medicine were applied only one patient at a time.

The birth rate is measured as number of births per one thousand people. It involves men, women and children in the population and it is also a gross measure of the growth rate of a population. The under developed countries are inclined to have very high rates of birth, but they cannot be explained without the knowledge of the childhood and infant mortality rates as well. The fertility rate is calculated on the basis of live births per 1000 women aged 15-44 years and it is also an attempt to calculate the rate at which women in the reproductive age group are successfully reproducing. The mortality statistics of the mother measures the number of deaths which are related to the pregnancy any way, directly or indirectly. The denominator for this statistics is 100,000 live births and not 1000 unlike most of the other important statistics. This may be regarded as the triumph of the modern medical science. The women clinic should always update themselves with information of various data in this field.

Unfortunately, a good number of deaths occur from steps to keep away pregnancy as well as from pregnancy itself. In fact, in the arena of obstetrics, most contraceptive hazards are analyzed for risk in comparison to pregnancy rather than that of no intervention. Unfortunately, many family practitioners and internists forget this while discussing women about risks associated with medication. To arrest the risks of becoming a woman at the age of reproduction, the mortality rate at the reproductive age measures deaths occurring from the use of contraceptive plus direct maternal deaths per 100,000 women. This is probably the most viable measure of the ability of a population to give safety for its most valuable and vulnerable segment. To avoid any type of unforeseen danger, women should regularly visit an obstetrician gynaecologist during pregnancy and child birth.

Another health risk of women is cervical cancer. Most women should be tested to find out if they have cervical cancer at least once in every three to five years. This is a new guidelines released by the American college of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists. These guidelines are in conformity with the recommendations published by the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, the American Cancer Society, and other medical groups.  Mass scale of Pap screening has decreased the rate of cervical cancer in the United States of America by more than 50% over the past thirty years. Finally to get an international standard of medical care of women and children visit the clinic of Dr Law in Singapore.  For his contribution obstetrics and gynaecology in Singapore has assumed a new face.
