How to Make an Upside Down Clown Costume
- 1). Sew the top neck hole of the clown costume closed. Have the wearer try on the costume upside down, with his or her legs in the arm holes. The wearer's head should not poke through either of the leg holes, but fit comfortably in the torso portion of the costume. Carefully mark the area where the eye hole should be cut in the costume.
- 2). Draw a clown face on the piece of white cloth with the fabric markers. Glue a clown nose onto the cloth. Glue the clown wig to the top of the clown face.
- 3). Glue or sew the clown face near the arm holes of the costume so that the face will be right-side up when the wearer has it on. Position it about 3 inches from the neck hole of the costume. Remember, this will look like the clown is walking on his or her hands, and looking up at the same time. Glue or sew the bow-tie under the clown face.
- 4). Measure the distance from the wearer's waist to the top of the clown costume's legs. Cut two pieces of balsa wood to this length.
- 5). Glue the pieces of wood to the back of the belt, ensuring they are equal distances from the middle of the belt when the wearer has it on. The wood pieces will extend along the wearer's back, above his or her head and into the legs of the costume.
- 6). Staple the clown shoes to the top of the wood pieces, with the wood stapled in the heel area of the shoes. Glue the costume to the shoes.
- 7). Cut the eye holes in the costume, ensuring there is plenty of room for the wearer to see comfortably. Sew the mesh to cover the hole(s).
- 8). Stuff the gloves with cotton stuffing, and staple, glue or safety pin them to the tops of the wearer's shoes.
- 9). Have the wearer step into the costume, and fasten the belt around his or her waist. Put the shoes with the gloves on his or her feet, and close the back of the costume.
