Safety Tips For Pool Chemical Storage and Usage

The chemicals used to treat your pool are hazardous and potentially very dangerous to anybody that is exposed to them.
Here are some tips that can prevent any accidents or injuries caused by such chemicals.
  • Make sure all chemicals are locked and out of reach of small children
  • Lids are closed tightly when not in use (only the original lid should be used)
  • Chemicals are not stacked on top of each other
  • Chemicals are stored in a cool,dry,well ventilated area, preferably off the floor
  • Chemicals are not near the pool heater 
  • Pool chemicals are away from chemicals used for garden and lawn
  • Acid is stored away from other chemicals
  • Liquid chemicals are away from other chemicals
  • Pool water is clean enough so that bottom of pool is clearly visible
  • Always add chemicals to water, not water to chemicals
  • Never add chemicals to the pool when there is somebody in it.
It is very important that pool owners control who has access to their pool chemicals at all times.
This should include uninvited guests as well as family members.
It is also a good idea to keep the "MSDS" sheets or, the Material Safety Data Sheets in a handy location where the pool supervisors know there location.
These sheets will give you the proper first aid steps if an accident does occur involving pool chemicals.
Also, be sure to always follow the directions given for each chemical.
Being a pool owner is a huge responsibility with regards to the safety of the individuals that use the pool.
Proper pool chemical usage, storage and handling is a very important part of keeping your pool area safe.
By following these safety tips you should be able to greatly reduce the odds of an accident occurring.
