How to Decorate White Bathroom Tiles
- 1). Clean your bathroom tiles with a strong tile cleaner. Wipe them down with a non-abrasive scrubber pad to remove any water stains and mineral deposits without scratching the tile. All the dirt and grime should be removed from both the tile and grout lines before continuing with decoration. A toothbrush can help with cleaning grout lines.
- 2). Sand any tiles you wish to paint with a fine aluminum-oxide paper. This helps give the tiles a glossy finish that assists in bonding to paint without scratching. Dust away particles with a rag once the sanding is complete.
- 3). Apply a primer to the tiles you wish to paint with a paintbrush. Use smooth, even strokes to achieve best results and keep the primer coat even across all the tiles. Paint each tile individually and try to not get any primer in the grout lines. Once the primer dries, sand again and apply a second coat.
- 4). Apply an oil-based gloss paint in the color of your choosing to each of the primed tiles. As before, paint each tile individually for a cleaner look. The oil-based gloss is water resistant and can stand up to the high humidity levels frequently found in bathrooms. Lighter colors tend to make the bathroom look bigger since darker colors absorb light and tend to give an impression of a smaller space.
- 5). Allow the paint to dry and then apply a second coat.
- 6). Add tile stickers to any tiles you wish to decorate without painting. They come in a variety of designs and colors and have an adhesive that allows you to simply press them onto a tile.
- 7). Hang framed pictures with double-stick adhesive over any other tiles you wish to personalize. The adhesive may need occasional replacement but photos are an effective way of personalizing any space, including a bathroom. Photos can also be used to cover up a damaged tile.
