    • 1). Choose a resume style that will draw attention to your strong points. Chronological resumes list your work history starting with your most recent job. They work well for people who have a long, solid work history. Functional resumes list your work history starting with the job that gave you the most relevant experience. These are good for people who have a short or irregular employment history, such as recent graduates.

    • 2). Get to the point. Explain what makes you the best choice for the job. Prospective employers do not read every resume from start to finish. A human resources director who sees no relevant information in an initial scan of the resume may toss it aside.

    • 3). Provide information that makes your resume stand out among dozens or even hundreds or resumes. Show why you are the best choice.

    • 4). Be honest. Do not embellish your accomplishments. The interview, background check or first few days on the job will reveal misrepresentations of your qualifications.

    • 5). Pay close attention to spelling and grammar. Prospective employers want assurance that you are detail-oriented, communicate well and care enough about the opportunity to present an error-free resume.
