How to Paint Ceramic Bath Tile
- 1). Clean the bathroom tile well. Remove soap scum, mold or mildew, as well as grease or wax buildup. These substances can interfere with the paint and tile bond and cause the paint to peel. Allow the tiles to dry completely before painting.
- 2). Paint the tiles with a paintbrush and oil-based or urethane resin paint. Start at the back or top of each tile, positioning the brush just to the inside of the grout joint. Pull the paintbrush toward you in smooth strokes.
- 3). Allow the paint to dry completely. Depending on the type of paint used, this could take several hours to several days. Refer to the paint manufacturer's specifications.
- 4). Cover the painted tiles with a clear top coat of urethane to seal them. Apply the urethane in the same way you painted the tiles: from back to front in smooth strokes. Allow the urethane to dry.
