Fall Festival

• The Cornwall Fall Festival, sponsored by the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce (cornwallchamber.org), is a street festival held each September in Cornwall. The festival features musical acts, antique appraisals and auctions, a pie eating contest and a raffle. Local dance and gymnastic groups perform and many local businesses have booths featuring information, food or demonstrations. The chamber also holds a coloring contest for elementary students, who color in a picture of a local Cornwall landmark.
  
  

Discovery Quest Hikes

• Hikers visiting Cornwall in September will want to stop by the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's (hhnaturemuseum.org) Outdoor Discovery Center. Each weekend, the center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and sells four different Discovery Quest guidebooks to local hikes. Quests include a pond quest, field quest, woodland quest and a hiking quest. The museum also offers interactive weekend nature programs, a monthly speaker series and "meet the animals" events with a wildlife center staff member.
  
  

Historical Society Events

• The Cornwall Historical Society (cornwallhistoricalsocietyny.com) holds regular events highlighting historic buildings and people of Cornwall. At their monthly meetings, they feature a speaker on a Cornwall history topic, and September's meetings are no exception. September topics have included a meeting held at the Storm King Engine Company with a discussion on the history of the firehouse. Each September meeting features an interesting topic to history buffs or anyone looking to learn more about Cornwall and the surrounding area.
  
  

Army Football Games And Other West Point Events

• Just five miles south of Cornwall is West Point, home to the United States Military Academy (usma.edu). September visitors will not want to miss the chance to attend an Army home game. Visitors can also sign up for a guided tour of West Point. The Army Corps of Cadets also has its first cadet review, a parade for the corps, in September. Visitors to West Point over the age of 16 must have a valid photo ID and should allow additional time on game and review days.
