Old magazines, tape and some decoupage medium--put them together and you have a popular crafting trend, rolled magazine bowls. Strips of glossy magazine pages are rolled into a coil, then the tight coil outer edge is lifted up, creating a solid bowl to decorate your home. While the original design calls for regular magazine pages, you can recycle other paper goods to create a twist on this project. - Roll old holiday gift wrap into a coiled bowl for a holiday decoration. Fill these bowls with wrapped holiday candy, or use them as part of the gift wrapping for a homemade holiday gift.
- Use old sheet music or music class workbooks to create black and white bowls. The musical notes will show around the rim of the bowl as well as giving a stark black and white look to the body of the bowl. Place these bowls in music rooms or media rooms, or give them to music teachers as gifts.
- Recycle gardening catalogs that you get in the spring into colorful floral bowls. Choose the pages with the brightest designs, or pick each page that has a certain color for a more unified look. Coat these bowls in waterproof decoupage medium to use them as planter holders, or simply "plant" them with artificial flowers or greenery.
- Make the rolled magazine pieces as usual, but cover them with Mylar wrapping paper. This will save money on the relatively high expense of the Mylar. These bowls will have a very high-tech and modern look.
