How to Set Up an iPod Library
- 1). Download and install the iTunes software. ITunes is the software that your iPod needs to set up and organize your iTunes library. It can be downloaded for free from the apple website. See the resources section for a link to the download site.

Connect your iPod to your computer by attaching the larger end of ipod connector cable to the bottom of your iPod and the USB end to your computer. - 3). Look to the left side of your iTunes software, and you will see an icon that indicates your iPod is connected. If you click on this icon, you can see the items on your iPod. This is you iPod library.
- 1). Create a playlist in your iPod library by first creating a playlist in iTunes. From the top file menu, select "new playlist" which is the first option. Chose a name for your playlist, like "Workout Songs" or "Road Trip Songs." You can always change the name later by double-clicking it.
- 2). Chose a song from your iTunes library. Use your mouse to drag the song onto the playlist you just created. Repeat this until you have all the songs you'd like to add.
- 3). To copy this playlist from your main library to your iPod library, use your mouse to drag the playlist to your iPod icon. You can also delete playlists from your iPod library by selecting them and pressing the delete key on your keyboard, or by left clicking with your mouse and selecting "delete."
- 1). Move single songs to your iPod library by first locating them in your main iTunes library. Once located, click and drag the song with your mouse to place it on your iPod. These songs will not appear in a playlist, but rather, in the "music" section of your iPod's iTunes menu.
- 2). To delete single songs from your iPod library, select the song and press the delete key on your keyboard. You can also right click a song and select "delete" from the menu, the same way as you would delete a playlist.
- 3). Move songs around in your iPod library by selecting them from the "music" section or from a playlist, and dragging them around. Select more than one song by holding down the Ctrl key as you click. This is a good option for moving songs from one playlist to another.
