    • 1). Determine the type of weighted hook to be used. Hooks are available with round, oval and other-shaped lead weights attached to the shank. There will be different actions associated with the different shapes of weights.

    • 2). Select a plastic lure that is appropriate for the species of fish you wish to catch. For example, a trick worm is an excellent choice, because the longer plastic worm will twitch and move with the water current as the lure is worked along the bottom of ponds and lakes. This is especially effective on large mouth bass.

    • 3). Slip the point of the hook through the front or larger end of the lure. Because weighted hooks may not be off set or have a bend for a plastic bait, insert the hook through the lure at an angle.

    • 4). Turn the hook back toward the plastic bait and push the point of the hook back through the body of the plastic lure.

    • 5). Leave the point of the hook just below the surface of the plastic bait to make the bait weedless. This will prove helpful when fishing in heavy weeds, grass and lily pads. Adjust the hook so the plastic bait sits straight on the hook.
