    Walls and Ceilings

    • 1). Remove wall decor -- such as pictures, mirrors and draperies -- from the area. Wipe the walls and ceiling with a dry dust mop to remove dust, cobwebs and dirt.

    • 2). Mix 4 cups of warm water and 1/2 cup of TSP in a bucket. Put on a pair of household gloves. Saturate a sponge in the TSP mixture. Hold the sponge over the bucket and wring out the excess liquid.

    • 3). Wipe the walls and ceilings with the saturated sponge. Begin with the ceiling and work your way down the walls. When the sponge becomes dirty or dry, saturate the sponge again. Continue wiping until you have removed all mold.

    • 4). Pour household bleach into a small container. Dip a white cloth in the bleach. Wipe the ceilings and walls with the saturated cloth. Allow the bleach to air-dry on the walls and ceilings.

    • 5). Fill a clean bucket with cool water. Submerge a clean cloth in the water and wring out the excess. Wipe the walls and ceilings with the damp cloth. Allow the walls and ceilings to air-dry.

Vinyl Tiles, Countertops, Bathtubs, Sinks and Showers

    • 1). Pour white vinegar into a clean spray bottle. Spray the white vinegar onto the black mold. Allow the vinegar to sit on the mold for 15 minutes.

    • 2). Dampen a cloth in cool water. Wipe the mold off the surface.

    • 3). Spray vinegar onto the surface again and scrub it with a sponge. Continue applying vinegar and scrubbing with the sponge until you have removed all traces of the toxic black mold.

    Washable Items

    • 1). Brush the black mold off the clothing with a dry cloth. Perform this step outdoors when the wind is not blowing. Make sure the mold does not fly back onto you.

    • 2). Set the washing machine to the appropriate water temperature for the type of fabric.

    • 3). Allow the washing machine drum to fill with water. Pour the appropriate amount of laundry detergent and 2 cups of white vinegar into the water.

    • 4). Submerge the clothing into the water. Close the washer's lid or door and allow the machine to complete a full cycle.
