How to Edit an MKV File
- 1). Download and install Avidemux. The application can be obtained directly from the software author (see Resources).
- 2). Launch Avidemux. Go to “File” on the program menu and select “Open…” Browse for the MKV file in the file selection dialog box. Select the video and click “Open.” The media will be loaded into the program.
- 3). Locate footage in the MKV file that needs to be removed. Move the play head on the clip time line to the beginning of the footage. Click on the “Marker A” icon. Move the play head on the clip time line to the end of the footage. Click on the “Marker B” icon. Go to “Edit” and select “Delete.”
- 4). Locate footage in the MKV file that needs to be repeated. Move the play head on the clip time line to the beginning of the footage. Click on the “Marker A” icon. Move the play head on the clip time line to the end of the footage. Click on the “Marker B” icon. Go to “Edit” and select “Copy.” Move the play head on the clip time line to the insertion point of the copied footage. Go to “Edit” and select “Paste.”
- 5). Locate footage in the MKV file that needs to be rearrange. Move the play head on the clip time line to the beginning of the footage. Click on the “Marker A” icon. Move the play head on the clip time line to the end of the footage. Click on the “Marker B” icon. Go to “Edit” and select “Cut.” Move the play head on the clip time line to the insertion point of the cut footage. Go to “Edit” and select “Paste.”
- 6). Reverse unwanted editing changes by going to “Edit” and selecting “Reset Edits.”
- 7). Render editing changes by going to “File,” selecting “Save” and choosing the “Save Video” option. Target a saving destination in the file saving dialog box. Rename the edited video in the “File Name” field. Use the .mkv file extension. Click “Save.”
