Turning Down a Request to Be a Bridesmaid
- 1). Take her out to lunch or cook her lunch at your home. Do this as soon as you know you are unable to accept her request to be her bridesmaid.
- 2). Explain the reasons behind your decision. If the reasons are financial, do not be embarrassed to tell her that. Let her know that you would not be able to fully take part without undue stress on yourself. This does not apply if your reasons for turning down her request to be a bridesmaid are not financial.
- 3). Tell her you are unable to make the time commitment to be a bridesmaid if that is your reason. Explain to her that you would be overwhelmed with bridesmaid duties, along with work or family. Only tell her this if that is the real reason. Otherwise, be as tactful as possible no matter what your reason for turning down a request to be a bridesmaid. This will help avoid hurt feelings.
- 4). Offer your help for other aspects of the wedding. If possible, offer to help her pick out flowers or choose her wedding dress.
- 5). Thank her and make it clear that it was an honor to be asked.
