Landscaping Ideas for Condominiums

    Use Potted Plants

    • Use potted plants if there is any question concerning what's allowed by the condominium association. Potted plants can always be removed. Potted plants and flowers enable you to more easily experiment with landscaping designs. If you don't like a certain look with your plants arranged one way move the pots around and create another look.

    Add a Trellis

    • A trellis that isn't anchored into the ground can be a nice addition to your condominium landscape. Choose a trellis that sits above ground if you need to move it later. Adding a trellis gives you a measure of privacy from your close neighbors, as well as helps make your outdoor landscape space unique. Select a trellis in keeping with your condominium decor and style.

    Smaller is Better

    • Because condominium lawn space is much smaller than a regular-sized home lawn, select smaller plants and flowers for your landscape. Bolder colorful flowers will garner greater attention, taking the focus off their size. Smaller-sized flowers and shrubs enable you to have more colors and types without overwhelming the smaller landscape or your community. Smaller shrubs can help prevent window views from being blocked and other potential problems larger plants may cause for some landscapes and homes.

    Considerations

    • Some condominium associations do not allow residents to make any landscaping changes. Other condominium associations allow landscaping but do not allow fertilizers or pesticide use. Others may require an environmentally conscientious approach to any changes made in the landscape near your condominium. Before landscaping your condominium, investigate what you can do contractually.
