Blogging and Earning Money: Good Bedfellows or Mortal Enemies
Blogging and Earning Money: Make the Best of Both Worlds
Spend any time surfing the web and you will find an incredible amount of blogs filled to the brim with ad sense ads, animated banners and lots of other off putting eye irritation. Most of them have been abandoned like an old Dodge Duster, sitting on the side of the road gathering dust and pretty much ignored by everyone who passes by.
But secret truth is lots of people are making big money with their blogs. And with so many low cost ( and free ) solutions to create visually appealing and content rich websites that are running on a basic blog platform, the opportunities are endless for smart writers with a few extra hours a week to parlay that time into what could be a full time income, and do it very quickly.
Here are a few simple pointers:
1)Pick a good web host, [http://www.bluehost.com/track/ianhollander]one that has a one click installation for any of the popular blog software programs like Wordpress and Joomla. Using a program like fantastico you can literally have your new blog installed quicker than the time it takes to brew a cup of coffee. (Or make a cup of instant - yes, that fast!)
2)If you have several different things that you want to blog about that are pretty much unrelated, and you plan on making money from your new sites, set each one up separately in it's own niche or marketplace. Nothing kills a good blog readership faster than diluting your content. Pick one money making idea and stick with it on that particular site. It's easy and cheap to put up multiple sites, so for each new topic, creating a new unique domain. (Especially if you follow #1 above and pick a host that gives you unlimited domains for one low price!)
3)Do good keyword research. Use Google's own free keyword analysis tool and use keyword rich titles and descriptions in your posts. Ping the blog directories after each post to let them know you have added new content. This is incredibly effective for getting new posts indexed in the search engines quickly, which of course leads to more people finding your site.
4)If you are serious about making money, and are using Wordpress to run your blog, invest in the phenomenal Semiologic Pro CMS for incredibly easy Search Engine Optimization and supercharged enhancement to an already good blogging engine ( Wordpress ). In my own business, this one simple investment has taken my blogging to heights and dimensions I didn't think possible, and made it happen quickly!
5)Be committed. Keep up with it, and keep at it. Nothing kills a blog faster than infrequent updates, you will develop "fans" and people who want to read what you have to say ( and write) so don't let them down! If you stay true to yourself, and stay passionate about your niche or topic, you will find success finds you even if you don't go looking for it.
Best of luck, and hope to see you blogging to the bank in no time!
