    • Sunriver, Oregon is a resort community and part of the metropolitan area of the town of Bend. The area cover 3,300 acres and is adjacent to the Deschutes River. Sunriver features a resort hotel, cabins and a variety of vacation homes and condominiums. Visitors to Sunriver can participate in a variety of activities during their stay in the community, easily finding things to do no matter the season or weather conditions.

    Water Recreation

    • The proximity of the Deschutes, Fall and Spring Rivers and more than 100 lakes makes Sunriver a paradise for anyone who loves to fish. The waters around the community contain a variety of trout like rainbow and brook as well as Atlantic salmon and sockeye. Visitors can bring along their own gear and select their own sites for fishing; or, they can visit the local Cascade Guides and Outfitters in the Sunriver Village Mall, the only Orvis-endorsed fly-fishing outfitter in Oregon, for gear and guide services.

      The rivers and lakes at Sunriver also provide a location for boating, kayaking and canoeing. The resort area has its own marina that offers services like canoeing lessons as well as rentals. The marina operates from late spring through early fall. Whitewater rafting tours also depart from the Sunriver Village Mall. Hosted by Sun Country Tours, these guided rafting experiences last from three hours to a full day.

      Those who prefer to soak in a pool rather have four options at the Sunriver community: the South Pool near the Great Hall with its 50-foot water slide, the North Pool by the Woodlands golf course, the Lodge Pool by the Lodge Village Guestrooms and an indoor facility at Sages Springs Club & Spa. Guests and residents must show their room keys or resort identification to access these facilities.

    Winter Recreation

    • During the winter months, Sunriver's location in the Cascade Mountains draws winter sports lovers to the resort area. The Sunriver Resort has earned a place on the "Top 50 Ski Resort Hotels" listing from "Conde Nast Traveler." Among popular locations for downhill and cross-country skiing in the area are the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Trails and Virginia Meisner. The Edison Sno-Park on Route 45 is another favorite and also has areas for sledding, snowshoeing and snow-tubing.

      Another opportunity to view the Cascade Mountains around Sunriver in the winter lies in dogsled rides. Offered by Trail of Dreams, these tours leave from Mt. Bachelor and last around one hour. The sledding trips are appropriate for both adults and children. Families may also want to visit the ice-skating rink in the Sunriver Village Mall during the winter months.

    Spa and Fitness

    • For those with rest and relaxation on their minds, Sunriver serves as home to a luxury spa, the Sage Springs Club & Spa. The spa operated year-round and has a natural, earthy feel with local river rock walls, floors and fireplaces found throughout the facility. The spa has a full salon and offers body treatments, facials and massages, such as the signature hot-stone massage.

      The spa also has a health club with a strength-training circuit, treadmills, elliptical trainers and exercise bikes. Guests can schedule an appointment with a personal trainer, or attend one of the resort's fitness clases, which include pilates, yoga and water aerobics. A steam room and both indoor and outdoor tennis courts are also located at Sage Springs.

    Golf

    • Golfers can find four courses at the Sunriver Resort. Designed by Bob Cupp, the Crosswater course has received listings as one of"America's 100 Greatest Courses" from "Golf Digest." Cupp also designed Caldera Link, a nine-hole course designed to challenge golfers of all skill level and to appeal to families. The Woodlands has won a gold medal from "Golf Magazine" and is the design of Robert Trent Jones Jr.

      John Fought created the design for The Meadows course, a previous location of both United States Golf Association and college golf tournaments. In addition to the 18-hole championship course, a nine-hole putting green is at The Meadows.
