How to Put Fishing Line on a Fishing Wheel
- 1). Insert the end of your line through the guide on the front of your reel. The guides distribute the line equally over the reel when you wind the line.
- 2). Tie the end of your fishing line to the spool using an Arbor Knot. To make an Arbor Knot, put the end of your line over the top of the spool, and pull it out at the bottom of the spool.
- 3). Take the loose end of the line and make an overhand knot over the main line, then make another overhand knot with the loose end only to prevent the loose end from sliding through the first knot.
- 4). Pull the spool away from the line to tighten the knots. The Arbor Knot is complete.
- 5). Hold the line in front of the reel with your thumb and forefinger, then begin winding the reel's handle clockwise. The guide will make sure the line stays straight while you are winding the reel. Turn the handle at a very slow pace, so the guide works properly. When the reel is full, cut the line so about 3 feet of extra line hangs.
