    • 1). Sweep the concrete completely to remove all debris and dirt. The floor must be very clean in order for the primer to adhere properly.

    • 2). Apply painter's tape around the edges of the concrete. This will protect the areas adjacent to where you want to paint.

    • 3). Paint the floor with concrete primer, using a ½-inch paint roller. Cover the floor thoroughly and evenly. Wait for the primer to dry completely, according to the manufacturer's directions. Clean the paint roller thoroughly with warm water when you are done.

    • 4). Using a satin or pearl finish paint in the color of your choice, paint the concrete with a ½-inch paint roller. This will be your base coat, so choose accordingly. Cover the concrete thoroughly and allow the paint to dry completely, about two hours. Apply a second coat of paint to the concrete and allow it to dry as well. Clean your paint roller completely with warm water.

    • 5). Ball several sheets of newspaper up tightly to create plenty of wrinkles. Open the newspaper back up, but do not smooth out the sheets.

    • 6). Paint the glazes onto the concrete, using a separate small paint roller for each glaze color. Paint the glazes in random blocks to cover a 3-by-3-foot section. The edges of the colors should meet, but should not overlap.

    • 7). Wearing plastic gloves to protect your hands, grab a sheet of the wrinkled newspaper and press it against the glazed section of the concrete. Pull the newspaper back up and discard it.

    • 8). Repeat the glazing of the concrete and pressing the paper into the glaze until you have covered the entire section.

    • 9). Seal the concrete with a clear, water-based varnish sealer to protect the frottage paint. Use a clean ½-inch paint roller, and allow the varnish to dry for at least four hours before touching it.
